Keir Graff

Keir Graff was born in Missoula, Montana in 1969.  From the very start he had an interest in writing. “At the age of 5, I dictated my first play to my father, who typed it up on his Hermes portable typewriter. It was titled Zorro and the Bad Guy". Graff started writing novels in high school in an elective class called The Detective Novel. The teacher asked the students to start writing their own detective novels—and Graff’s Dark Suns was born.

On his way to becoming a published author, Graff went to Hampshire College, worked the night shift at Kinkos, wrote or cowrote 10 screenplays, wrote numerous articles and got familiar with rejection. “I recount these tales of woe not to gain the reader's sympathy but as an aid to aspiring writers. Unless your first name is Jonathan and you live in Brooklyn, or your first name starts with a vowel or consonant and you roomed with the daughter of Binky Urban in college, you will have to write a lot, and submit a lot, before good things start happening for you.”

The Other Felix is Graff’s fifth book and his first book for young adults.  The book was inspired by the dreams of one of his two sons named Felix. It was named Best of the Best by the Chicago Public Library.  Graff lives in Chicago with his wife and two sons and is Editor at the Booklist.
